After the pounding rainstorm,
before the dark street outside
unpuddled,

the old man sidled up to his dozing wife,
nuzzled her like fog kissing tops of trees,

his unshaven cheek barely touched
her sexy freckled shoulder

like sunshine shyly touching
burnished barley sheaves,

like Autumn wheat softly swaying
to the couples' quiet rhythms

as songs of love and life's giving
resounded in their breeze.
